Overview

Let's be real, participating in a game jam can be a lot of work. Sometimes it's just easier to play a very loose simulation of a game jam instead. Collect game assets (in the form of cards), create your ideal tech stack (by building a deck), and [auto] battle your way through increasingly competitive game jams. Can you become the ultimate GB Jammer?

Controls

  • A button = J/Z
  • B button = K/X
  • D-pad = WASD/Arrow keys
  • Start = L/Enter

How to Play

I'm really hoping that most of the game is self explanatory enough. I'm terrible at writing instructions.

Dev phase: Each round, both players will build a roster of upwards of 3 characters, each of which can be equipped with a mechanic (aka equipment) card.

Jam phase: The assembled teams (aka games) will then auto battle it out until only one side remains. The losing side will then lose 1 heart. Rinse and repeat until one player runs out of hearts.

Each card has an associated inspiration cost that a player must pay in order to play it. These are represented on each card by the top right number, and on the field by the lightbulbs. Each player's max amount increases each round, and any expended inspiration points get restored each round as well.

Troubleshooting/FAQ stuff

  • The game auto-saves every time you load the home page screen.
  • Since there's no audio, there's no feedback for when you try to do something that you can't do, e.g. buy a card when you can't afford it, leave the manage assets screen when your "deck" has more or fewer than 32 cards, etc. If you think something is broken... well, it might be, but double check all of your resources and stuff.
  • The asset store refreshes its inventory after every jam, whether you win or lose.
  • On the manage assets screen, the numbers by each card represent [# of cards of this type in your deck] / [# of cards of this type that you own]. For either number, the max value is 8.
  • Please don't give your backmost character a heal rod. If you soft lock yourself, that's on you lol.

Future plans?

The idea of spell cards sadly got left on the cutting room floor. As did character abilities. I'd like to revisit those concepts if I ever do any further development on this project. Also, I'm always wanting to do big community projects, and this might be a viable candidate for such a thing. I figure I could let people add in cards/characters based on their own GB games. Install instructions

Play it as you would any other .gb rom. I recommend bgb if you don't already have a preferred emulator to use.
